Orange Is the New Blue

(I totally stole my title from Omar Mouallem on twitter.) This week, Alberta, the province that most people ( Mark Ruffalo , for instance) refer to as the Texas of Canada, elected a different party. We went from being Canada's most conservative province, to one that elected a socialist majority government. What was once mostly Progressive Conservative blue bled New Democrat orange. Even my hyper-conservative riding in Edmonton's southwest elected a New Democrat. And it's funny to me how seven short years ago during the federal elections, most people on my Facebook feed were disinterested in politics and were apathetic (you can read about that here ). Now, seven years later, all anyone can talk about is politics. As Dustin so cleverly said on Wednesday (the day after the election), "Today, all my Facebook friends become politicians." And they all did. Or, rather, all (the majority of) people on Facebook can do is argue about whether or not we're going to...

Deal breakers:

Issues that cause a relationship to fail. I only have one deal breaker. One. Uno. Un. It's a bit judgmental and definitely not nice (not to mention I'm never going to meet a guy in THIS province), but I can't help it. My deal breaker is I could never be with someone who doesn't share my political views. I can't help it, though. My family? We're HYPER-liberal. The way we see it, if a policy or practice will benefit the vast majority, in particular those who are defenseless, then why wouldn't we agree with it? If a guy votes PC (Progressive Conservative) or Conservative, it's an instant turn off. See? Judgmental.

I need a drastic ch-ch-change

I am one of those *weird* individuals who cringe at the thought of change. You know the kind... they're content with the way things are and see change as an enemy intruder hell-bent on ruining everything. That was me until I "turned myself to face me." I have changed. I no longer see change as an adversary, but as a long-lost friend that I'm itching to see. Change, why don't you come visit me? I need you, Change. Crave you. Anticipate you. But needing and craving and anticipating this change are doing nothing. My life continues on this terribly mundane road and it will probably stay there for quite some time. How I wish I had the power to influence everything in my favour; that I could magically change my odds of finding a well-paying job in Montreal... Magically alter how I feel.  At least I can still dream... "And when your deepest thoughts are broken / Keep on dreaming boy 'cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die" ( Blind Melon ) He...

I'm All Growed Up... Finally

Back in January, I wrote this post . I was concerned about my future, worried that I was a Cineplex "Lifer", and was torn between wanting my job interview to go well, or blowing it on purpose. Needless to say, I wasn't hired for this position, and I've since started working part-time at a Mexican airline here in Edmonton [ Mexicana ] -- I was hired because of my Spanish, English and French language fluency. I am loving it there... BUT, I had a job interview on my 23rd birthday. It was for a job at NAIT ( the Northern Albertan Institute for Technology ) as a manual text editor.  It was a very low-key job interview; I found it easy to express myself and I was very confident... Well... drum-roll, please... I GOT IT!! FIREWORKS ! CONFETTI ! CELEBRATE! Huzza. I am now *OFFICIALLY* a big girl. Only down side? Accepting this job means that I'm going to be in Alberta for a little while longer than I planned...

There are some creepy motherfuckers out there...
