I need a drastic ch-ch-change

I am one of those *weird* individuals who cringe at the thought of change. You know the kind... they're content with the way things are and see change as an enemy intruder hell-bent on ruining everything. That was me until I "turned myself to face me." I have changed. I no longer see change as an adversary, but as a long-lost friend that I'm itching to see. Change, why don't you come visit me? I need you, Change. Crave you. Anticipate you. But needing and craving and anticipating this change are doing nothing. My life continues on this terribly mundane road and it will probably stay there for quite some time. How I wish I had the power to influence everything in my favour; that I could magically change my odds of finding a well-paying job in Montreal... Magically alter how I feel.  At least I can still dream... "And when your deepest thoughts are broken / Keep on dreaming boy 'cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die" ( Blind Melon ) He...

Freedom!

I feel liberated and I've never felt more exhilarated. Last night was the wake-up call I needed and I am now FREEEEEEEEEE.  I have made a conscious decision and not only am I sticking to it, but I'm confident that fear won't get in the way. Yay! For some odd reason, George Michael's Freedom is playing on repeat. Great celebratory song that sums up my elation (just the chorus part, though!)

A new favourite movie!

Having worked at a theatre, I'm exceedingly spoiled when it comes to movie prices. I'm not used to paying... AT ALL. So, last Thursday when I went to watch (500) Days of Summer , I was elated that my former manager let me in free of charge. Oh, how I love freebies! Anyway, this quirky, insightful and deep movie has been added to my list of favourite movies... Joining movie greats like Lars and the Real Girl, Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, and Little Miss Sunshine. It's one of those movies that has a million-and-one meanings... that is to say, that while certain themes are more prelavent to you, the person next to you might see others. It's one of those optimistically realistic movies that make your heart smile. In short, I found that it was believable and true. Even if I had paid $12.50 to watch Zooey Deschanel work her cuteness and Joseph Gordon-Levitt charm his way back into my heart (10 Things I Hate About You, anyone?), I know that I would have adored this movie. In ot...

Ah, my youth...

This was my FAVOURITE band growing up... Hahah! I'm so happy my musical tastes have changed but I must admit: I still feel the same jubilance I felt at age fourteen whenever I listen to this song. My friend Nicole and I never missed a concert or autograph signing... we loved Swollen Members like no one else. They played the Pawn Shop two weeks ago and it was the first Swollen show we missed. A small part of me wonders what it would have been like to be in the crowd. This blog post goes out to the Swollen Members... One of the few rap groups I ever liked.  What brings on this surge of wistfulness? My friend Brendan wrote to tell me that he bumped into MadChild at the Vancouver airport---he is now (quote) "old, fat, wears two watches and has all-Gucci luggage."  Ah, my youth...

Who Would You Rather Be??

Ah Metric.... You will forever remind me of August. Anyway, seeing as I cannot upload pictures, I cannot upload my pictures from the Arkells concert. As soon as I find my camera cord, these pictures (and a review of the awesomeness!) will be posted... Oh musique. Je t'aime FORT, la musique!

This is why I work at a theatre...

Not only do I get to see movies, but can you say free swag?? I can't wait for Harry Potter VI.

History in the Making

As cheesy as it sounds, we are witnessing history in the making.  I hope every American realizes how privileged they are to be creating change! [meaning: I hope all of those who COULD vote, DID!!} Why is it that I say we are witnessing history in the making?? Easy: the internet is playing a huge role in campaigning, text messages are being used in strategic ways to urge voters to stay in line... The chance that our American neighbours might elect the first black president, or first woman vp, or the oldest president (HA!)...  ... history in the making. P.S. Please ignore my grammatical errors... I'm typing this as I'm watching CNN.com. Oh, and please enjoy this vid... Obama is the embodiment of Inspiration.

Until We Burn (The Kids Just Want A Love Song)

Image
Seeing Bedouin Soundclash live, makes me want to hug everyone. I'm still on my high from last Thursday and knowing they're going to be in my hometown tomorrow (yes, tomorrow!), makes me want to be in two places at once. I wish I could apparate . Anyway, they were set to play a free concert in Vancouver yesterday in support of Insite  (North America's only supervised injection facility). Unfortunately, the event was shut down by Vancouver police, who stated that the organizers didn't have a permit to put up tents and that they obstructed traffic and blah, blah, blah... This has all caused a huge ruckus. Oh my.  One thing I forgot to mention in my last blog entry was Jay's freestyle during Money Worries! He ranted about how unfair things are, about the stupidity of the last election, and about Stephen Harper... The entire crowd went ape-shit. I wonder if he'll freestyle once more tomorrow...? Their latest vid is (as is always the case) very well-d...

Delusion... al

Lars and the Real Girl Watch it. Ryan Gosling and Emily Mortimer are perfection.  Delusion... al.

I should be studying.

Instead, I am on facebook, blogger and myspace all at once. I love multitasking. At least I'm semi-done my html assignment. *whew!* Learning html puts websites into perspective. I'll never look a website the same way, again. So much work goes into design and usability. Really, it's hard stuff. Juno comes out on DVD today!! WOOT! I should race out and buy it... but alas, I must study. *yawn* I have to keep reminding myself: only two more tests and one assignment... then I'm HOME FREE!! For now, here's a random interview with Bedouin.... hahaha!! "I actually just shaved my rat beard..." Oh. My.

Travis

I am so in love with Travis . They are fantastic and, while I am in love with other kinds of music and other bands, my Travis thirst cannot be quenched! I go through these phases all the time, but I think that this phase might never end. I was on youtube today and found a whole bunch of their videos. Sure, I have their CDs, but there's something about a good music video that adds to the story. There's a few songs in which that's not the case. You watch the video and you're disappointed. Not with Travis. I love going through music phases.  and my favourite Travis video

trailers for my three favourite movies!

New Year's Day

So I abso-fuckin-lutely love Bedouin Soundclash . They are amazing live and they have so much energy and they're really appreciative of their fans. I've been trying desperately to track down their first disc, Root Fire, to no avail (isn't the saying "to no avail" just the funniest thing? I've been trying to incorporate it into my vocab as of late... it's just so fun to say it!) Anywhoodle, my musings (or rather addiction) on youtube found me this beautiful nugget of greatness.
