Roommates

I stayed in Edmonton for school, and as such, never needed to live anywhere else but home. Free food, free room, free cable, free internet, free dry-cleaning service {kidding!}--why live anywhere else?

But ever since this summer, I have lived with awesome people. My five roommates have all been respectful, friendly, funny and willing to help. You might say I lucked out.

For starters, the way I found my roommates is very lucky....

I found out that I was going to Montreal this summer, on March 5... the day after I turned 22. I was ecstatic after I received a call from Rosalind (our Albertan coordinator) and immediately called my Hector, my Flory, and my older sisters. All four of them said the same thing: "bueno, y ahora necesitas un lugar donde vivir..." which means, "good, and now you have to find a place to live."

Oh boy. So I called five different places--four women, and one really friendly guy named Nicolas. He took my name, number and said he would call me after he talked it over with his "coloc." I told my parents about the progress I'd made but they were not too pleased about me calling a BOY. So I made more calls and called the women I had talked with earlier to gather more information.

Thing is, none of the women seemed like good fits... they were charging me way too much, they lived too far from where I was going to work, or had found someone. My search continued...
Fast-forward to the JUNO weekend when I received a call from Nicolas saying he'd talked it over with his coloc, Marc, and was I still interested in subletting? At the moment, Nicole, Charlene and I were lost in downtown Calgary... it was 8:30 in the morning, we had only slept for three hours... He was speaking in French... I agreed. Once I hung up, I realized that I had agreed to live with a boy. A boy. My Hector was going to shit a brick!

Anyway, needless to say Nicolas was a super friendly guy. Our emails were chatty, and he wrote to me in English, French and Spanish! He made jokes about Montreal and was very enthusiastic. He made me look forward to moving to Montreal for the summer. He gave me Marc's phone number and encouraged me to call him when I arrived in the city.

Finally, on May 9, I arrived in Montreal. I met Paul, who reminds me of my cousin Juanse--and was therefore one of my favourite people over the summer--and later met Marc. When we moved at the end of June, I met Max, my third roommate. He is literally the nicest guy ever! His girlfriend lived with us for a while, and so it was like I had four roommates instead of three. It was a nice break having a girl around, too.

Now, during my second time in Montreal, I live with two sweet, sweet chickies.

Ain't they cute??

Marc mentioned Laura at the beginning of August... We were on the metro going home from Osheaga and he told me about a friend of his who was looking for a roommate... fast-forward three weeks and Laura and I were making plans about me moving in.

See?? I really did luck out! : )
