Pedestal, Schmedestal!

Pedestal: Pronunciation: \ ˈ pe-dəs-t ə l\ A position of high regard or adoration. When you put someone on a pedestal, you idealize their existence. People typically placed on pedestals range from parents, significant others, and people you adulate (read: celebrities). If by chance you meet this person you adore, odds are you'll be too frightened to act as you normally would or say things that are unexpected... that is to say, without the presence of liquid courage. The first Bedouin concert Nix (a Psych major) and I went to, I remember her turning to me and saying, "You know why the stage is higher up, don't you?" When she saw my blank expression, she quickly informed me that it all stemmed from the idea that by placing the stage higer up, we idolize our favourite bands and singers. It's society's way of manipulating us into adulation. The idea has stuck with me and to this day, when I think someone is too good to be true, I'll think back on Nix's wor

My Mels is gone.  No more North&South/Pride and Prejudice/Jane Eyre/Pixar-a-thons.  At least I got to see her off today. Granted I ran back and forth about 3 km today (no joke!) Working at the airport is a great workout. :) I am stoked about the family's trip to Guatemala this Christmas (chilling with Sebas, Nita, Gaby and my favourite niece and nephew will be spectacular!), but I now wish we were staying in Eddie-ton. I won't get to see Mel for LONG, extended periods of time until summer. Granted, we're planning our trip to the UK... and now, Justin's coming with us, so YAY! More people. I still miss her. Is this how my friends and family felt when I left for Montreal the second time? According to Char, yes. At least, now, I get it. Is it selfish to wish I was far away, too?

Yet ANOTHER Reason to Love the Soundclash

Jay apologized for his naughty behaviour at the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival. Personally. Through a letter . awwwwwwww! Jay! He wrote to the organizers and even got in touch with someone who was injured when he (stupidly) threw a bottle into the audience. Bad, Jay! Though I also thought he acted very immaturely stupidly, I always find that people are too quick to judge. That's why I liked one of the comments on this article. The author of this comment acknowledges that while what Jay did was a no-no, that she wondered whether "the audience members who threw bottles, etc at the performers would be willing to acknowledge their errors in judgement[.] Easy to critique someone in the spotlight..harder to shine a spotlight on yourself. [sic]" You tell 'em Theresa04! Ugh. I miss their music... so much. Okay... maybe not just their music, but their former-drummer, too. Hey! Can you BLAME me? Look at him! I think this is the best Pat picture I took. le sigh.

An Ode to MeleM

I'm extremely blessed when it comes to friendship because, though I am shy, I am friendly and my friendliness has helped me bond with a varied group of ladies. Some of whom I've known for most of my life, others whom I've only known for a few short years.  Nevertheless, all of my friends are special to me and I am lucky for every single one of them. My best friend Melissa is going to Sheridan Institute  this fall and I'm beyond proud of her. Melissa is a loyal friend and her cynical attitude, though un peu too much  at times, definitely helps me laugh a lot more at myself. She's also super-interested in animation and, since I'm the biggest Disney fan in all of Edmonton (haha!), I go to every single kiddie movie with her. She's amazing that way. So grown up and ambitious, but able to fool around and get excited when discussing Sailor Moon ( Fighting evil by moonlight... winning love by daylight... ) Did I mention that she's an unbelievable artist ? She

Blink 182 - 07/31/09

The All-American Rejects opened for Blink for most of their tour. Them and Fall Out Boy (*yawn*). All I have to say about the Rejects is they weren't Weezer. I wanted Weezer to open for Blink, but noooooooooooooo... Weezer only plays HUGE venues like Toronto and LA. Jerks. *sticks out tongue* "Please just don't play with me / My paper-heart will bleed." OMG! It's Mark Hoppus! askjfa;sdfj! I am a creeper... I feel ashamed. And now, for the main attraction... BLINK 182! During the entire show, there was great camaraderie between the three boys (particularly between Mark and Travis. I found that Tom, being the snarky dude that he is, seemed petulant and insufferable at times). The Blink 182 concert was as hyped-up as any "reunion" tour concert is expected, and I gotta say that the hype was completely justified. They are great showmen and know how to kiss Canadian ass! haha! I'm glad they paid us a visit and am saddened that they were *together* only for
